GRAMMY winning Ricky Martin performed hit songs for 500 special guests at Emirates gala at the Kodak Theatre
DUBAI, U.A.E. - GRAMMY award-winning musician Ricky Martin performed for an audience of 500 last night to celebrate the odack Theater of Emirates' new non-stop service from Dubai to Los Angeles. The world-famous international airline hosted a memorable gala at Hollywood's legendary Kodak Theatre, one of the last events to be held before the theatre transforms early next year into the permanent venue for Cirque du Soleil. The master of ceremonies was two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank. Martin, one of this generation's true musical icons, performed for an audience that included Los Angeles government officials, airport representatives and corporate executives. The evening was held in celebration of Emirates' Sunday, October 26 inaugural flight into Los Angeles International Airport, marking the start of direct service between Dubai and the U.S. movie capital. "This soirée reflects the glamour that Hollywood is so famous for and of which we are proud to now be part of," said Keith Longstaff, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Worldwide. "Los Angeles has welcomed us with open arms and we wanted to reciprocate and show our appreciation to this great city. We look forward to serving Angelenos and their neighbors from across the southwest region of the United States." The evening began with a champagne cocktail reception and appetizer service, where guests had the opportunity to sample food served aboard the luxury airliner. Cocktails were followed by a sit-down, four-course meal, which went through three tasting sessions in preparation for the evening service and was prepared specifically for this event by acclaimed chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck. Hilary Swank addressed the crowd as they took to their seats, noting the new era of cultural connections that are made possible by this new route, and guests were treated to a video presentation on Emirates and its many exotic destinations. Keith Longstaff was introduced, who formally welcomed guests and noted that travelers from Los Angeles and the entire southwest United States are now able to take advantage of Emirates' hub in Dubai to connect to more than 100 destinations around the world, including India, Lebanon, Pakistan and China. Following dinner, Ricky Martin took the stage and performed several of his famed hit songs, including "The Cup of Life," "Livin' La Vida Loca" and "Maria." Emirates flies the Boeing 777-200LR on the new Los Angeles route, offering 266 seats in a three class configuration and providing up to ten tonnes of cargo capacity. The non-stop, long haul flight delivers the highest standards of comfort, as Emirates' 777-200LR is outfitted with eight luxurious private suites in first class, 42 of its latest lie-flat beds in business class, and generous space for 216 passengers in economy class. Flights out of Los Angeles are initially offered three times per week - Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays - before increasing to a daily service. The new service operates out of the Tom Bradley Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which handled more than 61 million passengers in 2007. Aqui os dejo la nota de las chicas que lo pudieron ver aunque no fotografiar porque paso como un rayo. "Ricky performed Wednesday night at a private party at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood that was hosted by Emirates Airlines to celebrate the commencement of non-stop flights from L. A. International Airport to the Middle East. Many thanks to Lucile (Bluedun) of RMTEE for alerting us to the article announcing the appearance that was in the Los Angeles Times the morning of the event. My friend Ellen and I arrived at Hollywood/Highland (home of the Kodak Theater) about 7:30 tonight and immediately ran into David Cabrera and a lot of Ricky's dancers in the mall. Moments later (also in the mall) we saw Joselo, then Ricky, with several other people, including Rosa. Unfortunately we ran into all of them before we even had a chance to get our cameras out. So I'm sorry, but we didn't get any photos of Ricky. He looked great. Here are more details on Ricky’s look. I was so sure there would be actual photos, but I still haven't seen a thing. So I went looking for the closest photo I could find, and Carol's wallpaper was the closest. He had a full beard--maybe a little shorter than in the photo on the far right. His hair was short like this, but maybe a bit longer on top and maybe a bit longer on the sides--the sides maybe just long enough to be slicked back a bit. And I'm quite sure the little Buddha knot (is that what you call that little ponytail??) on the back of his head was gone. I hope this helps. And I hope my memory is accurate. I'm crummy at this stuff, and then there's Ricky brain mush on top of it, so no promises!lol Ellen and I weren't able to get in to actually see the concert, but we did find sympathetic security people that let us past the security ropes where we could stand by the doors and listen to the whole concert, and we were also able to watch the performance on a video screen. Here is most of the set list. He performed for an hour exactly: Pegate/Raza Medley This Is Good Jaleo I Don't Care Vuelve SAIEH LLVL ?? (we had to move to another location and missed one--maybe two songs) La Bomba PAPA Maria TCOL
